Neuruppin and Rheinsberg by Coach

The Ship Elevator in Niederfinow

Niederfinow lies at a distance of about 75km (46 mi) east of Berlin. Here you will find an important artefact of transport technology: an elevator which transports ships on the Oder-Havel-canal. This elevator has a transfer height of over 30 m (100 ft), the vertical distance between the Oder valley and the “Barnim” high plateau. The elevator platform is an enormous water basin with foldable gates, and from here there is an impressive view over the Oder valley. A visit to the medieval Chorin monastery or a visit to the nature reserve “Unteres Odertal” can be integrated

Sachsenhausen Memorial

In the city of Oranienburg, north of Berlin, lies the former site of the Nazi concentration camp Sachsenhausen, which is now a Memorial Site. The area of the Memorial is very large – it is advisable to spend approx. three hours on a visit
